The Alaska Wood Energy Development Task Group (AWEDTG) is a collaborative effort between government agencies and non-profit organizations to explore the viability of increasing opportunities to increase the production of biofuels in Alaska. This working group is also working on training more Cordwood Boiler Operators to help grow the workforce able to repair and manage biomass heat generators.
Efforts to improve the viability of biomass energy in Southeast Alaskan communities not only create economic opportunities, they also help reduce reliance on fossil fuels and provide productive uses for forest lands that have been impacted by drought, disease, or fire.
